Ayo Mengenal Hutan Lewat Museum

Museum dan Taman Hutan Manggala Wanabakti merupakan sarana informasi, edukasi, dan rekreasi bagi pengunjung. “Harapan kami, kalau orang sudah masuk ke Museum Hutan ini, mereka sadar akan pentingnya hutan bagi kehidupan,” kata Prachmatika, Kabag Museum Taman Hutan. Mengunjungi museum ini tidak dipungut biaya, alias gratis. Cukup mengisi buku tamu, pengunjung bisa mengeksplorasi hutan Indonesia melalui museum.
Setelah mengisi buku tamu, pengunjung langsung disambut dengan pohon berbicara, pohon jati berumur 139 tahun yang menjulang tinggi hingga hampir menyentuh atap gedung museum. Pohon itu bercerita tentang dirinya melalui rekaman suara, dan artifak-artifak disekitarnya membuktikan bahwa cerita sang pohon jati itu benar.
Tidak hanya itu. Banyak hal lainnya yang dapat dipelajari dari koleksi museum. Misalnya, jenis-jenis hutan dalam bentuk diorama seperti, hutan jati, hutan pinus, hutan agathis, dan hutan payau. Semua diorama dibuat berdasarkan aslinya dan dilengkapi dengan kehidupan satwa di dalamnya, juga dilengkapi dengan kotak suara yang jika ditekan tombolnya akan menjelaskan secara detail.
Pengetahuan terus bertambah seiring langkah demi langkah menjelajahi museum. Ternyata hutan serta kehidupan liar di dalamnya, sangat banyak manfaatnya bagi kelangsungan hidup manusia. Ini tergambar dalam koleksi hasil hutan, seperti jenis-jenis kayu, kertas, dan pulp.
Berbagai jenis produk yang dihasilkan dari kulit, getah, bunga dan daun, juga tersaji lengkap. Mulai dari kapur barus, damar, bahan pelitur, minyak cendana, kayu manis dan banyak produk lainnya yang sampai saat ini masih digunakan oleh manusia.
Koleksi di lantai satu ini juga dilengkapi berbagai alat-alat eksploitasi hutan dari yang tradisional hingga modern, foto-foto dan lukisan angkutan kayu jaman dulu, serta alat-alat ukur untuk membuat peta kehutanan dan interprestasi potret udara.
Ingin tahu lebih dalam mengenai hutan Indonesia. Naik saja ke lantai dua. Di sana ada pusat dokumentasi dan informasi yang menyimpan ribuan bahkan jutaan koleksi bahan pustaka ilmiah, baik dalam bentuk buku maupun digital.
Perpustakaan ini terbuka untuk umum, apalagi untuk pelajar dan mahasiswa. “Kami tidak memberlakukan kartu anggota seperti perpustakaan pada umumnya. Hanya saja karena terbitan tiap koleksi terbatas, pengunjung tidak diperbolehkan membawa pulang, hanya baca ditempat. Tapi jika ingin memperbanyak kami menyediakan foto copy,” jelas Prachmatika yang sudah menjabat sebagai kabag selama 12 tahun.
Jika ingin tahu lebih dalam tentang hutan, silahkan datang ke museum ini yang terletak di jalan Jendral Gatot Soebroto, Senayan, Jakarta Selatan, persis di samping gedung MPR. Jangan lupa, jam operasionalnya dari Senin sampai Jumat, pukul 09.00 sampai 15.30.
